Groundskeeper

Job Description

 GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the grounds of AzCA in a clean and presentable manner. Position performs routine repairs to all tools, equipment and sprinkler systems as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Repairs, maintains and refurbishes all tools, equipment and systems of AzCA.
• Mows, trims and edges all lawns in and around the buildings, sidewalks, driveways, recreation areas and landscaping of AzCA as required.
• Trims and prunes all hedges, trees and bushes in and around the grounds of AzCA as required and within capabilities.
• Controls sprinkler and watering systems as required.
• Provides a system of periodic weed control as required.
• Keeps the grounds, lawns, sidewalks, doorways, etc. clean and clear of all debris.
• Ensures all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
• Advises the Facility Operations Supervisor on the need for professional services not within the capabilities of the Department.
• Ensures accuracy of all programs, logs, and records assigned.
• Performs general security functions as required.
• Assists Maintenance Workers as directed by Facility Operations Supervisor or Director.
• Performs other duties as assigned which are consistent with the general responsibilities of the position.


Skills/Requirements

 REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
 Able to demonstrate competency of all aspects of groundskeeping duties.
 Understanding and knowledge of all aspects of plant, lawn and garden care.
 Familiarity with lawn and garden equipment, maintenance requirements, sprinkler system repair and maintenance, and other maintenance in general.
 Must be able to work as a team member and respond in a timely manner.
 Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
 Ability to communicate, comprehend and perform functions from written and oral instructions.
 Must have ability to exhibit mature judgment and emotional stability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 Must be 21 years of age (licensing requirement).
 High School diploma or equivalent.
 May be required to possess a valid Arizona driver’s license and be insurable under the agency’s automobile policy.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
 Must be able to provide DPS fingerprint clearance.
 Must be able to meet training and agency compliance requirements for the position.

Mental Requirements
• Ability to effectively communicate in the English language.
• Ability to interact well with various levels of staff and with guests of AzCA.
• Able to follow instructions and directions (both oral and written).

Physical Requirements
• Outdoor working conditions with frequent physical activity.
• Must be able to climb stairs, with frequent standing and moving throughout facility or in the alternative, perform these physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Frequent physical effort (lift/carry up to 35 lbs.).
• Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, or pulling.
• Must be able to physically perform all duties described and related to this position.
